TAHQ will hold it’s annual educational conference, in concert with the Tennessee Hospital Association October 28-30, 2009 at the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center in downtown Nashville. Wednesday October 28 will be a joint conference with The Tennessee Nursing Partners Collaborative.
The Tennessee Nursing Partners Collaborative and the Tennessee Association for Healthcare Quality (TAHQ) are hosting the 4th Annual Leadership Summit for Nursing on October 28, 2009 in Nashville, TN at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel and NashvilleConvention Center in conjunction with the THA Annual Meeting October 28-30, 2009. The theme for this year’s conference is evidence-based nursing practices for quality and safety.
Dr. Ronda Hughes will be the keynote speaker for the conference.
Ronda Hughes, PhD, MHS, RN is a Senior Health Scientist in the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ's) Center for Primary Care, Prevention and Clinical Partnerships (CP3). She leads AHRQ quality improvement initiatives for nursing involving research and implementation of evidence. Dr. Hughes is the editor and major contributor of the book, Patient Safety & Quality: an Evidence-based Handbook for Nurses, which is targeted to nurses across settings and is being utilized by schools of nursing and hospitals nationally and internationally.
The Nursing Collaborative Partners and TAHQ are accepting abstracts for presentations and posters on implementation of evidence-based clinical practices to improve quality and safety. The selection committee is particularly interested in strategies for the following areas:
Fall Prevention
Pressure Ulcer Prevention
Pain Assessment/Management
Prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections
Prevention of catheter associated urinary tract infections
Prevention of catheter related blood stream infections
Work environment and culture strategies
Other innovative presentations focused on implementing evidence based clinical practices outside of these topics may also be submitted for consideration.

Day 2, Thursday October 29 will be an opportunity to attend both THA educational sessions and a 3 hours TAHQ session on Healthcare Transformation: LEANing the Way!
The objectives of the presentation are:
Define the term LEAN
Discuss the application of LEAN techniques
Describe the impact of LEAN on organizational cultures
The session will be presented by Jesi Malloy Director of Management Engineering at CentennialMedicalCenter.

The Tennessee Hospital Association and the Tennessee Association of Healthcare Quality are hosting a series of one hour Quality 101 Webinars from April to September. The purpose of these Webinars is to prepare Quality Directors and their staff to become certified healthcare quality professional (CPHQ).
TAHQ board members and other members will host state-wide study groups in local geographic areas that will serve as an opportunity for current CPHQ's to develop mentorship relationships. Details will be announced at a later date. The Study groups will be held at no charge. By completing this Webinar series and becoming certified, attendees can help communicate the value of the APHQ to the C-Suite in their hospitals.
Target Audience: Risk Managers, Quality staff, CEO, CFO, CNO, COO, Director of Education and Human Resources.
